Celebrating Teaching Specialists on New Year’s Honours List
An impressive 11 per cent of the New Years Honours list in January 2012 was devoted to those in the education jobs. Professionals ranging from primary education through to further education establishments have been encouraged across the board with DBE’s for Head Teachers and MBE’s for governors and principals.
Despite the controversy surrounding the inclusion on the list of major Conservative party contributor Paul Ruddock and his affiliation with David Cameron, there is reason to celebrate for the education sector and to not allow it to be overshadowed.
Emerging from 2011, a year of criticism and cut-backs in further education funding, the people behind the sector have been rewarded in the face of adversity and recognised on a human level for the efforts put in to improving the education system. With many losing their jobs, it has been a source of inspiration for students and new teachers entering their professional careers.
